Pair of Brussels tapestry fragments finely woven of silk and wool featuring angels carrying a basket of flowers above their heads. Opposing angels, one with a gold draped cloth the other with a red cloth. Belgium, circa 1725, nice bright rich colors. Mounted on wooden padded board covered in acid free muslin, life size Angels measure 5’ 9” x 1’ 10” each. Perfect for framing or could be wired as is for hanging.

The 18th century saw the increased competition of the French workshops, both royal and private. Weavers like Le Clerc, Leyniers, van den Hecke and de Vos maintained quality, but the last of the traditional Brussels tapestry ateliers closed at the time of the French Revolution, by which time tapestry was finally becoming less popular; Goya's designs for the royal factory in Spain were perhaps the last major works in the medium.

Condition: Ancient restorations, antique wear, consistent with age.
